01

Context

This engagement was a diagnosis, not a rebuild.

A running WooCommerce perfume store with site-speed problems. The job was to find out why — and to say so precisely enough that the fixes could be acted on.

Performance problems on a live store are rarely one thing. They are usually a hosting characteristic, a caching behaviour and a delivery path interacting, with the store's own configuration on top.

02

Challenge

The symptom was slow loading. The symptom is never the cause, and a store cannot be optimized by guessing which layer is responsible.

The work required separating the layers — hosting, CDN, cache and the WooCommerce setup — so each could be judged on its own rather than blamed collectively.

03

My role

  • Diagnosed site-speed problems.
  • Investigated hosting.
  • Investigated CDN behaviour.
  • Investigated caching.
  • Reviewed the WooCommerce setup technically.
  • Delivered concrete optimization recommendations.
04

Approach

  1. 01

    Reproduce

Establish what is actually slow, on what, and when — before changing anything.

  2. 02

    Isolate the layer

Separate hosting, CDN, cache and application so a single cause can be attributed rather than assumed.

  3. 03

    Review the store

Technical review of the WooCommerce setup itself, which is frequently where the weight lives.

  4. 04

    Recommend

Write up concrete optimization recommendations the owner can act on, in order of what matters.

05

Technical work

Hosting investigation
Server-side response behaviour examined as a candidate cause rather than assumed adequate.
CDN investigation
Delivery path and CDN behaviour checked — a misconfigured CDN can cost more than no CDN.
Cache investigation
Caching layers examined for what was actually being cached, and what was silently bypassing it.
WooCommerce technical review
Review of the store's own configuration, where cart and account behaviour commonly interacts badly with caching.
Core Web Vitals framing
Findings framed against Core Web Vitals so the recommendations pointed at what a user experiences, not only at a lab number.
06

Outcome

  • Diagnosed the site-speed problems across hosting, CDN and caching.
  • Delivered a WooCommerce technical review.
  • Delivered concrete optimization recommendations.

Contact

Have a site or store that needs to work better?

Tell me what is happening and on which page. A diagnosis is a useful first deliverable on its own.

I read every message myself and reply within one working day — usually with a question or two before anything else, because a scope worth quoting needs them answered.
